18 May 2009..
my journey from KL Central to LCCT only took 1 hour by bus (enough time for me to continue my dream) due my flight by early in the morning, 730am... after check-in at Counter R57, me and my colleague, Ms Daya (now Mdm Daya) proceed to Door T4, Gate 83 to Medan
short air journey to Medan, only took 45mins flight. Medan time also behind 1 hour from KL's. we arrived Bandara-Polonia International Airport. Met the friendly tour guide, Pak Endro and the "supir", Mas Yugo
depart to Parapat, another 4hrs by "Kijang", via Tebing Tinggi and Permata Siantar. Stop at Paten Shop to buy Tang Tang, Teng Teng, Ting Ting, Tung Tung, Pang Pang etc etc etc. it's a peanuts, actually. a plenty of different nuts available. At IDR15,000 per packet (RM5)
fyi: T.O.B.A is stands for "Tanah Orang Batak Asli". and "Batak" means strong and hard. there are 5 Batak Tribes :- 1) Toba, 2) Karo, 3) Mandaling, 4) Simalungun and 5) Dairi (as been told by the tour guide)..
Arrived Parapat, lunch at Minang Istana Rstn - served Padang food. ala ala Kampung Style. Proceed to Samosir Island by 1 hour ferry. The best moment is when there are few naked boys swimming at that deep lake and yells "di campak uang nya!" maybe if we throw some coins, they will dive down and pick it up for us? maybe??? i wont waste my money just for trying
Our first stop is at Tomok Village - visit Ompu-Rajani Ojur Sidabutar Tomb (600yrs old). Then, Ambarita Village - "Batu Kerusi Raja Siallagan"; rumors said that these Batak people who ate human flesh, only ate their enemies' (during war time) - in order to obtain power! i heard bout this story when i was young.. did you too?
best local word: "HORAS".. i dont know what does it actually means, but it's useful while shopping. 1st horas, we can get 30% discount; 2nd horas for 60% discount; another horas???
Check-in at Toledo Inn, took some photos.. (actually i wanted to rest so badly, but Daya insist to take some memorable photo...)
Me at Toledo Inn, Samosir Island - back: Lake Toba |
walked around, enjoy surrounding and hang out at one of small local restaurants. overnight - enjoy the wave sound from our room - calm, isn't it?
19 May 2009
early breakfast at hotel. experienced the speed boat ride straight from the hotel back to Parapat, the mainland; by using different route. the boat driver drop us at Siantar Hotel. proceed to Berastagi.
oh ya, Parapat is the East Part of Lake Toba, while Berastagi is the West Part of Lake Toba. click here
after 1 and half hours drive, along the coastal; we arrived Simarjarunjung. we could see the tip of Samosir Island from here. while enjoying the scenery, we were given the "bandrek" - a local Ginger Tea. eyaks!! the taste is weird though. Not like an usual teh halia kedai mamak
Proceed to Sipiso Piso Waterfall, another 1 and half hours from Simarjarunjung. we were here at the West Part of Lake Toba. "from east coast to the west coast" - interesting huh!
bought some "pisang kaki" at the Fruits Central Market, Berastagi (2hrs from Sipiso Piso). pisang kaki, well it's not same species as banana and definitely not a foot. looks like an orange, dark orange, unexplain taste - you should try on your own. i can say, this place is similar like our Cameron Highlands. chill!
lunch at Rumah Makan Garuda, Padang food as usual. 1 thing u should be careful here, if you notice any signage of B1 or B2 - means.... jeng3!!
B1 stand for pork, and B2 for dog meat. surely NOT HALAL... okeh!
ok, then we Checked-In at Sinabung Hotel. such a big hotel, completed with a playground, bird park (like a mini zoo), private pool (of course), paintball area, etc etc etc. much much better than Sibayak Hotel. Sinabung and Sibayak are two active volcanos - we can see those 2 volcanos from our hotel.
having dinner at the sidewalk - fine with me. i tried a lot of local item, including the fresh milk, sate, martabe (terung belanda) juice, markisah juice, sirsak juice, wortel (carrot) juice, lengkeng (rambutan) dessert and "kerang goreng". not enough with that, had our supper at the hotel. supper or suffer? im full!
20 May 2009
Depart back to Medan Town via Sibolangit. saw the local people with the local costume - at the wedding ceremony. biggest "Aqua" factory here - free hill water supplies. Some more, Hill Park Sibolangit (formerly Greenhill Theme Park) also available here. best of the best - bat / pork widely available at the roadside. they do eat bats?
Arrive Medan in the afternoon, we had luch at "Bakso Amat", original taste of Bakso. tried the "keropok kulit sapi".. and saw the gitarist of Kerispatih - a local band, also dine here. i secretly took their photo. shhhhh! he's not bad. however i'm not their fan, but i do like few of their hits songs - "tapi bukan aku" and "demi cinta".
Finally, it's shopping time! went to Medan Mall, Batik centre, Plaza Super Market and the famous Pasar Ikan (no fish were sold here) - Batik Wangi!!. tries local Es Koteng (ABC) & Roti Kid (Roti Boy). i just lurve to try some of local items.
Check-in at Madani Hotel, a muslim hotel = provides Al-Quran & Sejadah in the room, staff are wearing Hijab and located nearby the Raya Sultan Mosque.
after enjoyed so much with the fantastic dinner at Grand Angkasa Hotel, we went to Merdeka Walk (similar like our Bintang Walk). here, the DVDs' are cheaper, only IDRupiah 10k (equal to RM3 for each;"you must be kidding me!")
21 May 2009
our flight back to KL should be at 10pm, so we spent more time at the hotel till check-out by the afternoon. visited Medan Fair Plaza & Sun Plaza (got Carrefour here), had our last lunch at Hot Plate Station.
forgot to mention, maybe because i ate a lot of local food, i got diarrhea - worst one. sucks to be me! at the mall, i met a cute guy on my way to the dirty toilet. i forgot his name. and since the guide ask me to be careful with the local guy; so... hmmm bye bye.
it's ok, Malaysian Guy are better
Transfer to airport, paid the Medan airport tax IDR75,000. pls take note that we need to pay the Indonesia airport tax before check-in. only in Indonesia. flight was delayed, well it's Air Asia. arrived KL by midnight. exhausted but had fun in Medan. Thanks everyone
tour end~
