Japanese Language is FUN! - Part 7.1.2

Apart from the magnificent scenery, beautiful culture, and those polite people, Japan is also famous with their local food. Who would say "no!" to Sushi, Sashimi and all that.

In previous entry, I mentioned "tabemasu" means to eat. It came from word "tabemono" means food. 
* while "kudamono" means fruit.

Let’s begin our lesson with…

Question : Ban gohan nani o tabemasu ka                      What do you eat/have for dinner?
Answer   : Gohan to tomago to gyuuniku o tabemasu     I eat rice and egg and beef
                  Nani mo tabemasen                                        Not eat anything / I'm on diet

Still can recall Lesson 5 about timing? No? It's OK, here's something to refresh
Asa  = morning...           Asa gohan  = breakfast
Hiru = noon...                Hiru gohan = lunch
Ban  = evening/night     Ban gohan  = dinner
** gohan only means rice

Niku = meat
Gyuuniku = beef
Toriniku   = chicken
Butaniku  = pork     *** kobuta = piglet

Let’s make few sentences from below vocab...

Pan = bread       Gyoza = dumpling          
Sakana = fish     Iwashi = sardine     Maguro = tuna     Saba = mackerel              Tara = cod          
Ika = squid         Tako = octopus        Kai = shellfish     Ebi = shrimp / lobster      Kani = crab   

other foreign menu for Yousyoku (western food) -- **** Wasyoku (Japanese food) 
stekki, omeletto, sarada, hambaga, supageti, karee, aisu kurimu, sandoichi, chokore-to etc
Previous lesson, I did mentioned Itaria ryori means Italian cuisine; Chinese cuisine is Cyoka ryori and Malay cuisine is Mare ryori.

How about dorinku (beverages)?...

Question O-Sake o nomimasu ka?         Do you drink Sake (Japanese Wine)?
Answer    : Iie, nomimasen                       No, I don't drink
                                                                  ***** Sake also means Salmon
Mizu = water     
Ko-hi = coffee
O-chya = tea     Koucya = black tea
Gyuunyuu / miruku = milk     Miruku tea = milk tea
Sotto dorinku = soft drink     Koko-a = coca cola
Biru = beer     Sake = Japanese rice wine     Wain = wine
           Kusuri = medicine.. we also can use kusuri o nomimasu (drink medicine)
Jyu-su = juice     

We can add below kudamono (fruits) for the juices..

Apuru = apple               Apuru jyu-su = apple juice
Suika  = watermelon     Suika jyu-su  = watermelon juice

Ringo / Apuru = apple     Suika = watermelon
Momo = peach      Nashi = Japanese pear     Mikan = Mandarin orange
Budou = grapes     Ichigo = strawberry         Kaki = persimmon (in Malay, we call it Pisang Kaki)

Last but not least, yasai (vegetables)..

Nasu = eggplant             Kyuri = cucumber     Hakusai = Chinese cabbage 
Hourensou = spinach     Letasu = lettuce         Daigon =  Japanese radish  
Jyagaimo = potato         Ninjin = carrot           Negi = spring onion
Tamanegi = onion


oh wait!! we still need to ask our family or friend to go for meals...

and how to ask her/him/them?? by using "issyouni" means let's or together
Questions : let's go to eat together / shall we go to eat together
     1) Issyouni o tabemasyo ka
or  2) Issyouni o tabemasen ka (also means : why not we go to eat together)
Answer : if ok --> ee, tabemasyo
               if you don't want --> ee, chotto (not interested)

of course, we can use when to ask someone to go to some place
Issyouni kouen he ikimasen ka = shall we go to the park together


bonus : chotto yasumimasyou = let's take a break
                arimasyou = let's meet up
