Nihon-go is FUN! - Part 5.1

Let's learn about TIME and DAYS/DATE

TIME

Jikan = time / hour

But, before that... first thing to do is to refresh the NUMBERS

   1   ichi
   2   ni
   3   san
   4   yon / shi
   5   go
   6   roku
   7   nana / shichi
   8   hachi
   9   kyu
 10   jyu

Question 1 : ima nan-ji desu ka     what time is it now?
OR ima nan-ji nan-pun desu ka     what time and what minute is it now?

Answer : ima jyu ichi-ji desu     now is 11˚clock

ima = now

number for "minutes", is quite different:
   1   ichi pun = ippun
   2   ni fun
   3   san pun
   4   yon fun
   5   go fun
   6   roku pun = roppun
   7   nana fun
   8   hachi pun = happun
   9   kyuu fun
10   jyu pun = jyuppun OR jippun

Can also ask for local time for certain or exact place/state/country such as
Question 1.1 : Furansu (France) wa ima nan-ji desu ka

Question 2 : Anata wa maiasa nan-ji ni okimasu ka     what time do you wake up every morning?
Anata wa maiban nan-ji ni nemasu ka     what time do you sleep every night?

Answer : Watashi wa maiasa shichi-ji han okimasu     every morning i wake up at 7:30

mai = every     asa = morning     ban = night / evening
han = half / 30-minutes

Before we begins with 'building' a full sentence, let's learn other vocabularies:

mainichi = every day      maisyuu = every week
gozen = am     gogo = pm
hiru = noon / day time     yoru = evening / night
kesa = this morning      konban = this evening / tonight
ototoi = day before yesterday   kinou = yesterday   kyou = today
ashita = tomorrow   asatte = day after tomorrow
e.g  kinou no ban = yesterday's evening
rei-ji = midnight / 12am     sorosoro = soon
Sensyuu = last week     konsyuu = this week     raisyuu = next week
ichi jikan = in 1 hour     ichi nichi jyou = one whole day     issyukan = in 1 week

Now, making sentences are easy

Sample 1 : Kaigi wa ashita no nan-ji desu ka     What time is tomorrow's meeting?
                  OR shiken = exam

To add "kara" from what time "made" to what time
Sample 2 : Kurasu wa nan-ji kara nan-ji made desu ka     kurasu = class
OR place like ginkou = bank

To add "gozen" am and "gogo" pm
Sample 3 : Shigotou wa gozen kyu-ji kara gogo roku-ji made desu ka     I work from 9am to 6pm
OR.. Mainichi gozen kyu-ji kara gogo roku-ji made hatarakimasu
        Everyday I'm working from 9am to 6pm

NEGATIVE : ashita hatarakimasen     NOT working tomorrow
kinou hatarakimasen deshita     NOT working yesterday  (past tense)

Sample 4 : Shigotou wa nan-ji owarimasu ka          Owarimasu = finish
OR Anata wa nan-ji made hatarakimasu ka

Sample 5 : Hiru (noon) yasumi (break) = lunch break
Hiru yasumi wa nan-ji kara nan-ji made desu ka
OR  Anata wa nan-ji kara nan-ji made yasumimasu ka          Yasumimasu = break

"kara" from and "made" to also can use for place.
Sample 6 : Penang kara Johor made desu     from Penang to Johor
