Post Anniversary - Part 1 (Penang)

#throwback

Happy 2nd Anniversaries, my dear hubby

Similar to previous years... we loved and enjoyed road trip during  our honeymoon. And on our 2nd anniversaries, we choose to travel to Penang & Perak by car; on 11th December to 17th December. We choose to travel on Monday because... my husband got classes on 9-10 Dec! That time, he attended classes for his Master in Technology Management in UTM. And, luckily he got no classes on the following weekend. Nevertheless, it's doesn't mean that we can travel far, because his Thesis's deadline was by end of last year. A vacation vs Thesis?

That was my 1st time travel to Penang by ferry. The journey takes 30-mins only from Butterworth, but the waiting time... hmmm MasyaAllah!! but it was a new experience for me and I'm really enjoy the view overlooking Penang Island. and the fare is only RM 7.70 per car.

Once we arrived at the Penang Island, we are so starving! Had our lunch at the Kapitan Restaurant, near to The Gurney Resort Hotel & Residences. We had Chicken Claypot and Butter Chicken ala mamak (that red sauce of butter chicken is a bit spicy).

Late check-in at Golden Sands Resort. I purposely booked for a Seaview Room @ RM 425 per night. This is my second time staying at this hotel.

Compared to Hard Rock Hotel Penang, here at Golden Sands has a huge garden and wide beaches.  For that kind of advantages, they do provides a plenty of sun-lounges where we can relax and enjoy the evening. There are local operators who offered few activities such as parasailing, banana boat, island hoping, fishing trip and many more. Unfortunately, it is a jellyfish season.. instead of swimming, we decided to sit-back and relax by the pool.

At night, we went to the night bazaar. The market's starting point is in front of the hotel, unlike Hard Rock where we need to walk for 15-mins at least. Nothing much at the night market actually. Probably due to weekday, some stalls are not operated. We had our dinner at... hmm well, I can't remember maybe because of the service was slow, the food taste was so-so but pricey. Then, we heading back to hotel and enjoy playing pool - one of my favorite indoor games when I was young.

The 3rd trial... to "kills two birds with one stone"

On the next day, after breakfast... It's a time for... swimming lesson!!
Honestly, I can't swim and I'm really-really afraid of drowning. phew! Thank God I've the best instructor in the World!
This is 1.3 depth only.

Check-out time!
For the rest 3 nights, we were staying at my sister-in-law's at Gelugor area. She is a lecturer at USM. She took us to explore (mostly food-hunting) Penang. Originally my husband is looking for Yob Siput Bakar for the best grilled seafood ever - last time the stall was located nearby Masjid Jamek Sg. Gelugor. But sadly, the stall is no longer there and we googled for the new location. Stated in the internet, the new location was at the Astaka Jalan Permai Gelugor. We went there but still no sign of Yob Siput Bakar. We are totally devastated frustrated. Luckily, there are other food stalls available and we ordered Char Kuey Teow, Spring Rolls and Shariff Nasi Kandar. Surprisingly delicious!  Sorry, no photo was taken cause we were super-starving that time.

Then, we also went to Jelutong Chicken Rice. What a long queue. Next to it, there's a Kedai Ikan Bawal Goreng - this is my husband's favorite.

The weather was so damn hot! My sister-in-law took us to Ais Tingkap or Window Sherbet at Chowrasta area; nearby Jeruk Madu Pak Ali and Gerai Cucur Udang. The Cucur Udang also tasty.

The Chowrasta Market has changed a lot than the last time I came. Last time, the Jeruk Madu shops was located inside the market and we can scoop-out and mixed the jeruk on our own preferences. But now, Jeruk Madu Pak Ali (the famous one because they are using the clean and boiled water) has already packed-up the jeruk individually.

We also tried the local Apom Balik Sungai Dua. 70cents each - cheap and tasty. highly recommended!

Not to forget, the best Shell Out ever! at Idrus Ikan Bakar, Bayan Lepas. The seafood (shells, crabs, squids, bamboo shells, prawns etc) are so damn big and fresh. Worth having! We are allowed to combine two different kind of sauces : spicy and butter sauce. Of course, the non-spicy sauce is special ordered for me. heh

It's quite a list if you are looking for Nasi Kandar Restaurant in Penang. Namely; Nasi Kandar Hameediyah, Nasi Kandar Line Clear, Nasi Kandar Deen, Nasi Kandar Pelita, Nasi Kandar Beratur and many moreeee. For one of our lunches, we went to Nasi Kandar Merlin, exactly at the ground floor of Merlin Hotel at Lebuh Union.

And one of our dinners was served at my husband's uncle's house at Sg. Ara. Thanks Uncle Rosli and Auntie Laili for having us.

Last but not least, I ended the Penang version of our 2nd anniversaries with the view and some photos of the Penang Second Bridge. It's new and way longer than the first bridge. Soon, they will open a new Shopping Outlet and IKEA on the main land of course at the end point of this second bridge.

to be continued with the Perak version...
